If you’re interested in astrology, you've probably already checked whether you and your partner's Star Signs are romantically compatible. But if raising kids together figures in your plans, it’s a good idea also to find out if your Star Signs are well matched in terms of your parenting compatibility.

The Parenting Styles of the 12 Star Signs

Every Star Sign has its own distinctive parenting style, in some cases fairly traditional and authoritarian, in others relatively more modern and permissive.

In general, Aries, Taurus, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio and Capricorn tend to be quite strict with their kids, so don’t hold back in showing them who is the boss in the household and doling out reprimands and punishments when necessary.

As a group, these Star Signs are the most likely to provide their children with firm, unwavering, authoritative guidance of the more traditional kind.

In comparison, Gemini, Cancer, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius and Pisces take a more lenient approach to child rearing. These Star Signs are less likely to come down heavily on their kids if they step out of line, because either they’re too soft-hearted (Cancer, Libra and Pisces), or they believe in offering children plenty of freedom (Gemini, Sagittarius and Aquarius).

Star Signs in this group take a more progressive approach to child rearing with their laid-back and libertarian parenting style.

Which Star Signs Will You Do the Best Job of Parenting With?

To answer that question, you need to ask yourself what’s more important to you. Raising kids with a partner on the same page as yourself in terms of their child rearing strategies and their approach to discipline? Or alternatively, co-parenting with someone whose parenting style contrasts with – and thus has a balancing effect – on your own?

If you believe in parenting consistency, you’ll do the best job of raising your kids with a partner whose Star Sign falls in the same group of parenting styles as your own. Firstly, you won’t waste your time and energy arguing with each other over disciplining issues, which is good news for the kids because they hate to see their parents fighting. Secondly, you’re more likely to act in unison when enforcing rules and boundaries – another big benefit for your children because they’ll always know where they stand.

If, on the other hand, you believe in a balanced approach to discipline, you’ll be better off co-parenting with a Star Sign which falls in the opposite group to your own. So if your Star Sign is predominantly authoritarian, you’ll choose a co-parent with a more permissive parenting style, and vice versa. With this choice you’ll know your children should enjoy the best of both worlds: one parent who is willing to go easy on them when necessary, and the other to lay down the law if required.
